Demonstrating a strong commitment to preventive healthcare, student nurses and midwives from IIHS Jinja, alongside local Village Health Teams (VHTs), led a community health sensitization campaign in rural sub-counties surrounding Jinja City.
The outreach program, structured as an interactive Community Health Baraza, allowed residents to ask questions directly to senior nursing students and health tutors regarding common health challenges, seasonal illnesses, and disease prevention strategies.
Outreach Activities Included:
Sanitation Drives: Demonstrations on household water treatment, handwashing station setup (tippy-taps), and proper waste disposal.
Immunization & Child Health: Sensitizing parents on routine child vaccination schedules and early signs of childhood malnutrition.
Antenatal Care Awareness: Encouraging expectant mothers to attend regular health center visits rather than relying solely on unverified home deliveries.
The initiative gave students valuable field experience in community health nursing while delivering tangible health education directly to households that need it most.
